Ground-breaking research achievements in biological sciences, such as the human genome project, stem cell research, innovative therapies in cancers, and age-related diseases, highlight the potential of biological sciences to be the most promising area in science in the coming decades.

Towards this end, the Department of Biological Sciences has been established and entrusted with the aim of mentoring and preparing brilliant and creative minds, providing them with the opportunities to familiarize themselves with the principles of biology and gain experience using cutting-edge equipment, all of which is available at the state-of-the-art facilities here at UNIST.

The field of biology encompasses many different areas, from microbes to macroenvironments. Within UNIST, emphasis in the Department of Biological Sciences is given primarily to the human health-related fields of age-related diseases, neuroscience, stem cells, microbiology and regenerative medicine.
