As a research-oriented university, UNIST seeks to pursue knowledge of pure science and thus
contribute to the lives of our society and humanity.
  • Direction of study

All researchers at the Department of Biological Sciences (BIO) carry out cutting-edge research tasks in various fields.

As its name suggests, research in BIO transcends existing interdisciplinary barriers, and in a wide range of areas, including chemistry, life sciences, material science, and chemical engineering. Gulch is the front line of knowledge in convergence research. In particular, convergence research in BIO, based on a wide range of background knowledge of researchers, along with various research topics, Integrated Biosystems Dynamics and Nanotechnologies for Sustainable Development We are converging towards promoting joint efforts with two key research topics.

  • Goal of research

Improving the quality of life by addressing the challenges facing mankind today in the fields of environment, energy and health.

This is probably the main objective of our research. BIO's researchers have shown a very successful first step toward this goal. Based on the large-scale national research projects being carried out, the World-class University of Research (WCU) and the Basic Origin Technology Development Group for Climate Change Response were selected in 2009. In 2010, there was a leading science research center (SRC), which has been hosting cancer research through inter-cell communication, and recently, with a bio-efficiency verification center, there was a high-tech biomedical research center. I've hosted Hans Keller's stem cell research center, which will be a cradle. What was behind the brilliant achievement in such a short period of time? It may be self-evident in light of the individual qualities, enthusiasm, and the clear sense of purpose of all the members of the BIO team.
